Buxton, Hatteras Island, NC
Freightliner FL70

unit image

1999 Freightliner FL70, 5 man cab, Hackney 18ft. non-walk-in body. The unit is powered by an 8.3L Cummins with an Allison 6 speed automatic transmission.

The unit is also equipped with a 25KW PTO driven generator.

Equipment carried on the unit includes a full spread of Hurst hydraulic tools powered by an onboard electric pump, or 2 gas powered portable pumps. We carry a full set of low and high pressure air bags, cribbing, air tools, electric hand tools (corded and cordless), gas powered chain and cut-off saws, structural collapse and confined space equipment, low and high angle rescue gear, ladders, water rescue equipment, medical and rehab supplies, industrial rescue equipment, and much more. To say the least, we have made use of all the available space on the unit.

The Hatteras Fire Department is an all volunteer department of 33 members who provide rescue services to the villages of Avon, Buxton, Frisco, and Hatters, all on Hatteras Island, NC. We provide not only all types of land rescue, but also ocean and water rescue as well. In addition, we provide assistance to Dare County EMS on all medical calls in the area. Their other apparatus includes: 2 Chevrolet Suburbans, a Ford F350 with a 10ft. walk in body, 3 ridged hull-inflatable boats, a personal water craft, and a 30ft command/rehab trailer. The Chevrolets and the Ford are all four-wheel-drive for use in off road and beach driving.

In the background is Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.
