This Simon/ LTI 75' Quint was involved in a traffic accident on December 8, 2000 while responding to a fire emergency. After making a complete stop, the operator was proceeding through a four-lane intersection when the apparatus was hit broadside. The driver of the other vehicle claimed she didn't see the fire truck, which was displaying all of its visual and audible warning signals. There were no serious injuries to fire fighters on board, and the driver of the other vehicle suffered only a cut finger.
The American LaFrance Aerials/ LTI Facility located in Lebanon Pa. preformed the repairs which included complete replacement of the right side of the body and a portion of the cab. The repair time was nearly 10 months.
The fire department officers made some major changes to the truck during the repair process. The most significant change was the new paint scheme; originally the truck was white over red with a white stripe.
The new paint scheme along with the striping and graphics has been a welcome change to the fire department. Many who have viewed the truck since its return have dubbed it the "Patriot" since the tragedies of September 11, 2001.
Ironically, the color scheme changes were decided early in the year long before the September 11 incidents.
