Two Children Perish in Waco, TX House Fire

Photos/Story By R.M. Bergerson

Units responded to a reported house fire in the 3100 Block N. 25th St. with children trapped inside at 5:27 a.m. Sunday morning.

Upon arrival Quint 2 found a well involved 1 story wood frame house. Engine 6 layed a 4" supply line to Quint 2 as an interior attack was begun from the rear of the house to push flames back out the front. Quint 7 arrived with Chief 3, Rescue 2 , Engine 8 and Chief 1. Firefighters were able to remove one child in respiratory arrest before conditions deteriorated rapidly.

A 2nd Alarm was struck bringing Engines 1 & 9 to the scene. A man who removed one child prior to the arrival of firefighters received 2nd degree burns to his face and hands, and was flown, along with the child firefighters removed, to a burn center in Dallas.

Two children remained inside as firefighters were forced to evacuate. Another child and a Fire Lieutenant were transported to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

The next door exposure was also damaged slighty in the blaze. No cause for the fire has been determined as of Sunday afternoon.
