On Saturday, September 23, 2000, units from Kentland were dispatched to an apartment fire at 7420 Landover Road.
As Engine 331, Tower 33 and Chief 33 left quarters a column of smoke could be seen from this area.
Volunteer Chief 33 (Riley) went on the scene with fire showing from the 3rd floor of a garden apartment.
Engine 331 laid 700' 3" supply line from a hydrant next to 7410 Landover Road, the crew pulled a 250' 1 1/2" attack line to the 3rd floor.
Tower 33 was ordered by Chief 33 to take a position on side 3 of the building, which was excellent position for the crew to work.
Engine 301 picked up E-331 supply line and pulled a 200' 2" attack line from E-331 to back up E-331 attack crew.
All companies were kept busy for about 40 minute with the extinguishment and exposures.
The cause appears to be accidental, but under investigation.
The estimated loss to the apartment was $ 50,000.
Units were on the scene for 3 hours. No Injuries reported.
