New York Firefighters Battle House Fire

Photos/Story by Francis Nerney

On January 17, the Standford Heights Fire Department responded to this house fire. No one was home at the time of the fire. The owner came home to find smoke coming from the house. He was told by a neighbor that the Fire Department was already on the way.

He then proceeded to kick open the doors to rescue his pets. Leaving the doors open helped the fire to progress rapidly. Upon arrival of the Standford Heights FD a signal 30 (working fire) was transmitted. As there was a fence around the rear of the house, the FD decided to attack through the front.

The fire traveled the void spaces and extended to the second floor and attic. Standford Heights was assisted by the following fire departments: Midway, Colonie Village, Niskayuna and Carmen. Colonie EMS was on scene and investigators from the Town of Colonie assisted. The cause has not yet been determined and there were no injuries.
