On the morning of April 21st, 2001 at 3:26 am units from various Prince Georges
County fire stations were dispatched for a fire on the roof of a building.
Units dispatched were Engine Companies 9 (Bladensburg), 30 (Landover Hills), 13
(Riverdale Heights), and 2 (Cottage City), Tower 7 (Riverdale), and Truck 28
(West Lanham Hills), and Rescue Squad 22 (Cheverly).
The Engine from Bladensburg went on the scene and found a garden Apartment well
involved and immiediately requested the second alarm, bringing Engine Companies 4
(Brentwood), 1 (Hyattsville), 12 (Collage Park), 48 (West Lanham Hills), Tower 18
(Glenn Dale), Truck 34 (Chillum), Rescue Squad 14 (Berwyn Heights).
This is the building right next to 6020 Emerson that burned on April 8th about
the same time in the morning.
Again units arrived with fire showing and at 3:37 AM went to heavy duty master
streams.
Because of limited access to the rear for aerial units, the crews from Truck 28 and
Engine 481 stretched a 3" attack line with a strait tip to the rear knocking down
the bulk of the fire.
Tower 7 and Tower 33 were positioned in front of the building and set up elevated
master streams to knock down the fire that had burned through the roof.
96 firefighters worked for almost 3 hours doing overhaul and hitting hot spots.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
