Arkansas Firefighters Battle Blaze at Electrical Substation

Story/Photos by Lee Lane

On Sunday, April 29, the Jonesboro Fire Department, responded to a explosion at an electrical substation in a residential area.

A tranformer holding 4000 gallons of mineral oil, exploded, and leaked oil which caught fire and burned for about 45 minutes, until electrical crews could isolate the power to the transformer.

Fire crews protected exposures and evacuated area residence. When the power source was cut, crews made a attack with foam and extinguished the blaze.

No one was injured and power was rerouted to return electricity to customers.
