Canadian Firefighters Battle Store Fire

Photos/Story by Luc Lapointe

On August 13 the Chateauguay Fire Department received a call for a reported fire in a grocery store with apartments above.

First arriving units found the front porch of the 2nd floor fully involved because of a lit propane tank.

The fifth alarm sounded rapidly, bringing units from Chateauguay, Mercier, St. Constant, St. Isidore, St. Catherine, Delson/Candiac and Kanawake who fought the blaze for more than 6 hours before bringing it under control.

At the height of the fire, there were 5 engines, 1 ladder tower, 1 ladder, 1 rescue unit, 55 firefighters, four 3" lines and numerous 1¾" lines for protection of nearby structures.

No one was injured.
