Tennessee Firefighters Battle Apartment Blaze

Photos/Story by Andy King

Nashville firefighters responded to a south Nashville apartment complex fire on February 6, 2001.

The fire began around 3:15 p.m. at the South Brook Apartments, 5101 Linbar Drive, near Harding Place and Interstate 24.

The fire reportedly started after occupants tried to take a burning mattress out of one of the apartments. The mattress got stuck in the door way allowing fire to burn quickly up the combustible wood siding and throughout the apartment.

In all, 23 apartments were destroyed, but the fire did not extend to any other buildings.

Access was hampered by a creek that divided the complex.
