New York Ambulance Flips

Photos/Story by Tim Karnisky

On Thursday June 7th a Penfield Vol. Ambulance with a Monroe Ambulance Paramedic on board were enroute to a Priority 1 call when a Town of Penfield vehicle hit it broadside, at an intersection, causing the ambulance to flip on to it's side.

All 3 on-board the rig were transported to the Hospital. Penfield Fire Company assisted in removing them from the overturned ambulance.

The driver of the Town vehicle, refused medical treatment.

The Rig was a total loss, according to their insurance company.

The driver of the town veh. was ticketed for failure to yield the right of way to an emergency vehicle.

A commercial Ambulance from Monroe Ambulance had to cover the call the Penfield rig was enroute to. Penfield Fire responded with 2 Engines & 1 Heavy Rescue, they stood-by until the ambulance was righted by a tow company.

None of the injuries were serious, however the paramedic will be out of service for some time recuperating.

The Ambulance and Fire Company are separate entities and the Ambulance corps is operating with only 2 rigs until this can be replaced.
