Arkansas Firefighters Extricate One

Photos/Story by Richard Setian

On Friday, June 15th, a Mitsubishi Montero collided with a Pepsi tractor-trailer rig in Russellville, Arkansas.

The Russellville Fire Department responded with two engines and a rescue unit.

The victim had to be extricated by fire personnel. In order to perform the rescue, the vehicle tires were deflated to lower and stabilize vehicle.

While one firefighter/paramedic tended to the patient, the roof was removed. The vehicle was then winched out from underneath the trailer, in a slow, controlled manner. The driver's side door was then removed and the dash was spread.

The extrication took approximately 30 minutes.

The victim was in stable condition.
