A twin-engine Beechcraft King Air C90 on final approach to Dallas Love Field
lost power in one engine and crashed into a residential neighborhood north
of the airport Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 9th.
Dallas Fire-Rescue responded with three engines, two ladder trucks, two
battalion chiefs, a rescue ambulance, a crash truck from the airport and the
Hazmat team.
The plane clipped power lines before destroying the corner of a house and
adjacent storage shed. It finally came to rest in a service ally knocking
loose a natural gas meter.
First crews on scene used a rope to remove live power lines from the plane
before they could attempt to rescue the pilot. As other crews arrived they
were able to plug the natural gas leak and lay down foam to keep the Jet-A
fuel from igniting. There was no fire as a result of the crash.
The pilot, who was conscious after the crash, was taken to hospital with a
fractured leg and other injuries. A woman in the home that was struck was
not injured.
The plane was removed to a storage facility pending an FAA and NTSB
investigation.
