Philadelphia Firefighters Battle Structure Fire

Photos/Story By Chip Lillie

Philadelphia Firefighters tackled a stubborn 2 alarm fire Wednesday October 17, in a vacant two story building that most recently housed a computer firm.

Box 336 Frankford & Jasper St. was struck at 2:37pm and sent E7, E14 Pipeline 28, Pipeline 52, Ladders 10 & 15, along with Battalion Chiefs 10 & 8.

The first arriving unit, Engine 7, reported heavy fire through the roof and instructed the first alarm units to lead off with the heaviest water lines.

Battalion 10 ordered the 2nd Alarm on arrival and mounted an aggressive defensive attack utilizing ladder pipes and stang guns.

The Chief was met with some unique circumstances.

Along with high winds, the entire north side of the building was bound by the Frankford creek.

While Ladders 10 & 15 along with the stang guns were making progress, heavy fire continued in the northeast corner.

Command special called Squrt 38 to set up across the creek in the rear of the Walgreens, supplied by E33, to handle the remaining fire on the north side of the building.

Deputy 2 placed the fire under control @ 4:02.
