Pennsylvania Firefighters Battle Restaurant Blaze

Story/Photos By Jason Coleman-Cobb

On September 23, 2001 units from suburban Harrisburg, PA battled a two-alarm fire that gutted a popular local restaurant.

First due units arrived at 0232 hours with fire through the roof of The Maverick Restaurant located at 1851 Arsenal Blvd in Susuquehanna Township.

A quick primary search of the single story structure proved false reports of possible entrapment.

A second alarm assignment was struck bringing units from across Dauphin County, including Tower 1 from the City of Harrisburg, to the scene and for cover.

Numerous handlines were stretched but the heavy fire conditions forced firefighters to retreat into a defensive mode.

Companies worked throughout the night using master streams from 3 aerial devices before bring the fire under control.

The fire caused $1 million damage and believed to be electrical in nature.
