A 2-year-old died of smoke inhalation during a late-morning fire in a house in Mishawaka, IN, on May 21, 1996. Firefighter Mike Harris, on the porch roof, and Firefighter Bryon Woodward, on the ladder, were ascending to search for the trapped child when the first floor flashed over. Firefighter Bob Hunter jumped off the ladder to the ground when the fire flashed. All firefighters were wearing full protective clothing and suffered no injuries. The exterior stream knocked down the fire and all firefighters returned to the ground, then entered the house via another route.
