A Baltimore City firefighter from Truck 5 waits to make entry as Engine 19 prepares to charge the hoseline as a suspicious early-morning fire guts a vacant two-story brick rowhouse. The one-alarm fire required the response of four engines, two trucks, one rescue, two chiefs, an air cascade unit and a medic unit. The fire occurred on July 23, 1999.

This month's Firehouse® is dedicated to Captain William Bethune, 58, of the Texas City, TX, Fire Department; Firefighter Karen Jane Savage, 44, of the Junction City, CA, Fire Department; and Firefighter Gregory E. Pacheco, 20, of the Carson National Forest Fire Department, Taos, NM, who died in the line of duty, October 1999; and to Firefighter Lewis Edward Anderson, 68, of the River Falls, SC, Fire Department, who died in the line of duty, September 1999.
