Detroit, MI, Engine 32 responded to the only house on the block behind the crew's station and found it fully involved. The company ordered the second engine to dump its tank water through its monitor. The fire occurred on June 18, 2008.

This month's Firehouse is dedicated to Firefighter Richard Burns, 43, of the Pittsburgh, PA, Bureau of Fire; Firefighter Tyler Casey, 21, of the Seneca Area Fire Protection District in Racine, MO; Chief Raymond Eusden, 57, of the Aston-Beechwood Volunteer Fire Company in Aston, PA; Firefighter Jay C. Maddy, 41, of the Eaton, IN, Volunteer Fire Department; Training Captain Joseph R. Mixon, 51, of the Birmingham, AL, Fire and Rescue Service Department; and Firefighter Russell Thomas Topping, 28, of the Barnsdall, OK, Rural Fire Department, who died in the line of duty, May 2008.

    Around 2 A.M. on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, the eye of Hurricane Ike passed over the eastern tip of the island of Galveston, TX. The city of the same name, which takes up roughly the eastern half of the island, was already reeling from a day of rising water, pounding surf, increasing and relentless winds, and a pair of major fires.
