Funding and Grants

Fire departments in impoverished areas may soon get a leg up in the grant process.

The head of the U.S. Fire Service wants to give departments in "high-risk and economically deprived" communities a leg up in the grant process.


While speaking at the annual VCOS symposium in Clearwater, Fla. on Nov. 6, USFA Administrator Kelvin Cochran said he hopes to offer non-competitive fire safety grants as soon as next year to communities that don't have the money or the resources needed...

When the New York City Fire Department lost the lives of two firefighters and four others were critically injured, they set out to make sure it wouldn't happen again. This webcast explores the history behind and the design process for the FDNY Personal Safety System (PSS). Veteran FDNY Firefighter George Grammas will offer an overview of the deployment and anchoring system and explain the importance of repeated training with the system. Since the system has been placed in service, two incidents became close calls instead of tragedies.
