North Carolina firefighter died Wednesday afternoon after completing a shift.

Chad Eric Greene, 34, was an assistant chief with Union Cross Fire and Rescue of Forsyth County, Inc.

According to the USFA, Deputy Greene completed his shift at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 4, 2009, immediately after responding to a motor vehicle accident. After completing his shift, he left the station, dropped his son off at pre-school, and went home.

When Greene's wife returned home, she found him unresponsive, called 911 and began CPR, the USFA reports. Greene was transported to North Carolina Baptist Hospital and was pronounced dead at approximately 12:30 p.m. The cause of death is under investigation.

Green was also a 13-year veteran of the High Point Fire Department where he served as a fire equipment operator, according to http://www.digtriad.com. All High Point Fire Departments are flying flags at half-staff.

Deputy Chief Green is survived by his with Kimberly, daughter Emma Kaytlin and son Jacob Austin.

Visitation is scheduled for Sat., Nov. 7, from 6 -9 p.m. and the funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at Green Street Baptist Church in High Point.
