ROBERT BURKE

Robert Burke is the Fire Marshal for the University of Maryland. He is a Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFSP), Fire Inspector II, Fire Instructor III, Fire Investigator, and Hazardous Materials Specialist, and has served on state and county hazardous materials response teams. He is a veteran of twenty-four years in fire and emergency services, with experience in career and volunteer departments. He has attained the rank of lieutenant, Assistant Chief, and served as a Deputy State Fire Marshal. He is an adjunct instructor at the National Fire Academy and the Community College of Baltimore, Catonsville Campus. He is the author of books titled "Hazardous Materials Chemistry For Emergency Responders" and "Counter-Terrorism for Emergency Responders".     Radioactive Materials - Class 7
    Radioactive materials (hazard class 7) are a part of everyday life. Uranium is used in nuclear reactors to produce electricity and in the production of nuclear weapons systems.

    Corrosives Hazard - Class 8
    Class 8 materials are liquids and solids that are corrosive. There are no subclasses of corrosives. There are however, two types of corrosive materials found in hazard class 8, they are acids and bases.

    Miscellaneous Hazards - Class 9
    Miscellaneous hazardous materials in DOT/UN Class 9 are defined as, "a material which presents a hazard during transportation, but which does not meet the definition of any other hazard class."
