Week 5 is now history, and our operations continue in a safe and orderly fashion. This week we conducted 44 live fire/EMS evolutions, nine non-live fire/EMS evolutions, and hosted 173 participants. Our five-week total now stands at 295 live fire/EMS evolutions, 19 non-live fire/EMS evolutions, and 1109 participants.
This week, we hosted Prince George's County career crews from Stations 1, 5, 7, 8, 19, 22, 26, 30, 40, 41, and 47. We hosted Prince George's County Volunteer companies from Hyattsville (1), Brentwood (4), Laurel (10), College Park (12), Morningside (27), and Greenbelt (35). We again had the Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department High School Cadet program personnel at the facility for live fire/EMS and non-live fire/EMS evolutions.
Out of jurisdiction participants this week included units from Bethesda Chevy-Chase Rescue Squad, Mechanicsville VFD in St. Mary's County, MD, and the Sterling, VA VFD. Mike Elston, from the Salem, VA FD, spent Tuesday February 6 with us. He observed our operations and taped some of the evolutions. He made arrangements to participate after reading about the project on Firehouse.com. He commented on how beneficial the experience was for him personally, and how he hoped to take his experience and insights back to Salem for possible use in the future.
Battalion Chief Osterhouse again wishes to thank the project staff and the other instructors, who have given freely of their off duty and volunteer time. Special thanks go out to Capt. Pat Mutchler and Firefighter Rodney Cole, both of whom have given three to four days of their off duty time every week to the project. Their dedication has helped to make the Parkway Terrace Project a success.
Upcoming this week is another busy schedule of participants from in and out of Prince George's County. Scheduled visitors will include units from the District of Columbia FD, Mount Laurel, NJ FD, and Churchhill, MD VFD.
The slide show photographs this week feature more of a "behind the scenes" look, and contain some thermal images from our Thermal Imaging camera.
