We have now completed our sixth week, and have two weeks remaining. Our March 3rd end of project date is now "in sight", a light at the end of the proverbial tunnel. This week we conducted 35 live fire/EMS evolutions, ten non-live fire/EMS evolutions, and hosted 162 participants. Our six-week total now stands at 330 live fire/EMS evolutions, 29 non-live fire/EMS evolutions, and 1271 participants.
Prince George's County Fire Chief Ron Siarnicki states "It has been gratifying to hear the many positive comments from the participants at the Parkway Terrace Project. While technological advancements have played a major role in the evolution of this project, our dedicated and talented team of instructors have been the true measure of the success of this project."
This week, we hosted Prince George's County Career crews from Stations 5, 7, 18, 22, 26, 29, 30, 35, 40, 41, and 45. We hosted Prince George's County Volunteer companies from Riverdale (7) and Beltsville (41). Out of jurisdiction participants this week included units from the District of Columbia Fire/EMS Department, Church Hill, MD VFD, and Mount Laurel, NJ FD. The Mount Laurel, NJ folks got the "full" Prince George's County experience. Most of their contingent stayed in fire stations throughout the county for two nights, and several of them observed working incidents in addition to their full day at the Parkway Terrace Project.
Fire Technician Tim Meade and Firefighter Billy Hinton of the project staff celebrated birthdays this week. Cake, ice cream, special visitors, and special candles marked the occasions. We have also been trying to outdo each other in preparing meals for the staff. Venison has been a constant theme for the last two weeks.
Upcoming this week is another busy schedule of participants from in and out of Prince George's County. Scheduled visitors will include units from Montgomery County, MD, Fredrick County, MD, and Prince William County, VA. Additionally, we are planning another "Media Day", which will allow local media affiliates to observe the Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department, the Parkway Terrace Project, and fire/EMS evolutions first hand.
